Abstract

Considerable experience as a systems architect, designer, systems integrator, technical lead, project manager and director of information technology. Successfully held leadership roles in both small, mid-range and multi-million dollar projects that focused on ERP, CRM, Data Warehouses/Marts, Data Integration, Product Management and Legacy Archival.  Solid and collaborative work ethic, very strong Informatica and UNIX expertise with the ability to design creative and robust ETL solutions using the tools at-hand.

§      American Eagle Outfitters – Data analyst and ETL specialist for Teradata Data Warehouse

§      Sales Application: Researched impact of using new product numbering scheme. Developed and invoked necessary changes to enable new system within current data warehouse.

§      Planner-Analyst Application: Extensive research and design to implement new scheme to enable future planning of product lines.

§      Sales Application: with new Point Of Sale initiative (web orders from cash register). Extensive research and design to implement new scheme to accommodate complex aspects resulting from new point of sales processing scenarios (POS access to web enabling order of out-of-stock items for customers).

§      Teradata CRM Application: Developed numerous loading scripts for data from e-mail vendors. Large amount of custom SQL for data extraction and updates. Custom UNIX scripting for running jobs. Developed very robust UNIX FTP utilities for pulling/putting files at regular intervals.

§      Data Integrity Analysis: Determined and corrected data integrity issues with very large files that were not seen by commercial data provider. Took several iterations and communications to convince provider of errors and suggest solutions.

§      Equitable Gas – worked closely with large project group to develop import/export processes for a new Customer Service application based on Win2000 and SQL Server. Built a number of fully automated data-exchange utilities incorporating custom FTP utilities and MS-Task Management scripts:

§         Daily Accounts Payable extracts sent to J.D. Edwards input file on AS/400

§         Daily extracts to formatted flat files to feed in-house datamart.

§         Customer payment data to/from external bank and credit information systems

§         Numerous data extraction utilities for accounting personnel.  Many exported to formatted Excel spreadsheets.

§         Daily data interchange for mobile gas meter reading devices: (1) input of daily meter readings, (2) output of routes and meter locations to be read. Included data format verification and cleansing of input and output files.

§      McLoughlin Heating Oil – primary analyst on migration from legacy UNIX/C environment to Windows based application. Forced to devise methods to overcome legacy vendor’s unwillingness to cooperate and give their client access to their own data. Strong knowledge of UNIX and Perl enabled 100% data integrity for client and bypassed vendor.

§      American Eagle Outfitters ETL specialist for Teradata Data Warehouse Inventory Application. Researched and developed Extraction/Transform/Load strategies from AS/400 DB2 applications for daily updates of all AEO worldwide inventories. Worked closely with onsite Teradata personnel to optimize loading processes.

§      Dick's Clothing and Sporting Goods - Informatica support and coaching for large conversion project. Developed daily process to rapidly scrub and load TLOG data from all store cash registers into staging databases (8MM+ records each morning). Integrated specialty inventory datamart with enterprise software package. Established standardized processes and templates for database programmers. Acted as liaison between business analysts and database administrators.

§      American Eagle Outfitters - ETL specialist for EDI group integrating supply chain logistics data into an enterprise application package.  Developed many custom UNIX scripts, Informatica maps, PL/SQL programs and SQL*Loader scripts to provide a best-fit solution for varying data sources.

§      FedEx Ground - ETL specialist, data architect and technical lead for development of datamart for Operations Research group. Developed automated data gathering, parsing and analysis techniques, web-based surveys of user community. Used Oracle Designer 2000, SmartDB ETL tool on Windows and UNIX. Made numerous presentations to management and user community.

§      Allegheny Energy - Developed UNIX supervisory shell script that acted as single ETL control for data transfer, scrubbing, staging and loading into financial data warehouse. Script was tightly integrated with Informatica and utilized Perl database modules for very rigorous error checking and logging of data loads (6-8 GB/day)

§      MSA Britain - Developed web-based datamart for British subsidiary of MSA. The requirements-definition and bulk of customer communications accomplished primarily over the Internet and telephone.  Developed custom utilities for corporate intranet access to Oracle databases.

§      Mine Safety Appliances - Design and development of corporate intranet to access legacy human resources data utilizing a sophisticated data security model and Oracle security mechanisms.

§      Mine Safety Appliances (MSA) and Oberg Industries - Manager and Technical Lead for large-scale archival projects. Developed and standardized project methodologies. Developed utilities for generating Oracle table creation and data loading scripts for large archival projects.

Corporate IT Experience  1985 - 1998

§      Daxus (1995-1997) - Two years as technical lead and engineering manager for a software engineering company specializing in solutions for the metals and consumer packaged goods industries. Developed a web-enabled Product Management System for Boehringer-Mannheim based on Oracle that integrated manufacturing, document management and engineering drawing systems. Performed business and systems analysis for numerous pharmaceutical and medical device companies.

§      INDSPEC Chemical Corp. (1988-1995) - Eight years experience as IT Director for a $120MM specialty adhesives chemical company. Directed rapid selection and implementation of an integrated ERP system with multiple US manufacturing sites and both US and European sales & distribution channels. Supervised small group and synchronized IT activities at 5 locations. Worked directly with VPs of Sales, Marketing, Operations, Quality and Finance.

§      Koppers (1985-1988) - Design, development and implementation of a WAN-based relational database lab information system focusing on quality assurance metrics. System was used to allow release of shipments from processing plant and to print compliance documents.

Planning, implementation and management of an international office automation system. Enabled Internet e-mail access for international sales and research personnel in 1988. Designed and installed Trans-Atlantic network to European office in Rotterdam, including setup of hardware/software plus training for key personnel.

Project manager and IT liaison to Chemical Systems line of business - over 30 projects with a total worth of over two million dollars.
